September 26, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL)
New Orleans VooDoo News Release

The New Orleans VooDoo has retained seven players during the Arena Football League's exclusive period, announced the front office Friday morning.

Head Coach Dean Cokinos has exercised the option on seven rookie players for the 2015 season. These players include: QB Adam Kennedy, QB Brian Hudson, FB Kevin Ashak, DL Josh Downs, OL Leonardo Bates, OL Quentin Saulsberry, and OL Richard Muldrow.

"We are going to change the core of this team and by optioning the rights to these seven players this is a step in the right direction," said Cokinos. "These are young, talented players at key positions on the offense and defensive line, as well as, the quarterback spot that we can build on."

Kennedy (6-4, 230) joined the VooDoo in early June of the 2014 season. After learning the game in less than a week, Kennedy concluded his first season in the AFL completing 145 of his 246 passes, throwing for 1,535 yards with 26 touchdowns in 7 games played.

Hudson (6-3, 220) joined the VooDoo in early June along side Kennedy competing for the starting position. Hudson saw little action in the 2014 season with three attempted passes and no completions.

Ashak (6-3, 315) carried the ball 18 times for 12 yards and scored one touchdown. The rookie also hauled in three passes for five yards and recorded five tackles in 18 games for the VooDoo.

Downs (6-1, 295), a Louisiana native, sustained a season ending injury during training camp.

Bates (6-5, 310), raised in New Orleans, recorded one tackles in 12 games with the VooDoo.

Saulsberry (6-2, 304) saw action in nine games with the VooDoo recording four tackles (three solo, one assist) and catching one pass. He also spent time with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2014 before returning to the VooDoo to finish out the season.

Muldrow (6-7, 300) appeared in nine games recording one tackle during the 2014 season.
