SaberCats Exercise Options on Rookie Standouts

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Arena Football League and the San Jose SaberCats announced the team has exercised rookie options on 18 players, including quarterback Nathan Stanley and wide receiver Dominique Curry.

"We are thrilled to have Nathan and Dominique back with the SaberCats," said Owner and Head Coach Darren Arbet. "We are excited to see them build on their outstanding rookie years."

Stanley (6-4, 225, Southeastern Louisiana) stepped up huge for San Jose during his first season in the AFL. Twice thrown into the starting role after veteran quarterback Russ Michna went down with injuries, the rookie quarterback thrived at the head of the SaberCats potent attack. As a starter, he led San Jose to 7-2 regular season record while completing 201-of-335 pass attempts for 2,436 yards with 50 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions. Stanley also contributed four rushing scores, and delivered a 55-28 first round playoff win over Spokane with 193 yards and five touchdowns through the air.

Curry (6-3, 230, California University (PA)) excelled in all three facets of the game (offense, defense and special teams) during his rookie campaign. As a wide receiver, Curry hauled in 25 touchdowns on 50 catches and added 588 yards through the air. Regularly used in the red zone rushing attack, he also picked up five scores on 17 attempts on the ground. Defensively, Curry picked up 29.0 tackles with six pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. On special teams, Curry recovered two SaberCats onside kick attempts, and was often the first player down the field on kickoff coverage.

In addition, San Jose also exercised options on defensive back Kenny Okoro and offensive lineman Jeff Nady, both of whom saw action regular action during the 2014 season.

Okoro (6-1, 195, Wake Forest) appeared in 11 games last season, registering 60.0 tackles, good for fourth most on the team. He also notched eight pass break ups, two-and-a-half tackles for loss and one interception.

Nady (6-6, 315, Nevada) appeared in nine games for San Jose, filling in along the offensive line and at full back. He rushed the ball three times for six yards, and hauled in one catch for three yards and a touchdown.

The remaining rookie options include DB Demar Dorsey, OL Ray Feinga, DL Rodney Fritz, FB Jason Heath, DL Kyle Jenkins, DL Roosevelt Kirk, OL Elliot Mealer, DL Ernest Owusu, DL Micanor Regis, OL Randy Richards, OL John Steel, OL Jared Singleton, DL Dimetrio Tyson and WR Doug Williams.
