New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS - The New Orleans VooDoo practiced in the New Orleans Arena on Friday night for the first time in 2012, and welcomed two special guests: Cherie Meyers and Taylor Fourcade to practice.
After the team's practice, Meyers and Fourcade were introduced to the team and both received a round of applause from the entire team and coaching staff.
"I have heard a lot about Taylor and I was happy to finally meet him tonight and we also wanted Cherie to know that we support here as she battles through cancer," said head coach Pat O'Hara. "We all have fought through adversity in our lifetime, and the challenges that Taylor and Cherie have overcome help put a lot of things in perspective for all of us. I was happy to have both of them at practice."
Cherie Meyers is currently in her second bout with breast cancer, and still maintains her job while undergoing chemo therapy treatments. Fourcade was born with cerebral palsy and has been bound to a wheelchair his entire life, but is on pace to graduate high school with honors from East Jefferson High School at the end of this school year.
The New Orleans VooDoo will open their 2012 season on Sunday, March 18 versus the Philadelphia Soul in The Graveyard. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
