NEW ORLEANS (January 23, 2014) - The New Orleans VooDoo will hold their final open tryout for the upcoming 2014 season on Saturday, January 25, at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park in New Orleans.
Two players, DeAndre Brown and Leonardo Bates, were assigned to the VooDoo pre-season roster from the first VooDoo Open Tryout of the 2014 season.
"I am very excited about this open tryout," said Head Coach Pat O'Hara. "We had our most successful open tryout under my tenure as Head Coach in October. The effort and enthusiasm was there, and we were able to sign two very talented athletes. I'm looking forward to another large turnout in January."
Head Coach Pat O'Hara returns for his third season with the Voodoo. Former Voodoo players, BJ Cohen and Damon Mason, join Coach O'Hara's staff after long and successful playing careers in the AFL. All in attendance will have a chance to interact with and meet the coaches.
Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the tryout starting at 9:00 a.m. The registration fee is $60 and is due the day of the tryout in CASH. Players need to pre-register for the open tryouts and may do so by downloading the tryout waiver form and sending the completed form to the VooDoo Football Operations Department via fax, at (504) 875-3906, or via email to tryouts@aflvoodoo.com. This waiver form is available for download at the bottom of this page. Kickers ARE included in the open tryouts.
In addition to the registration fee, all participants will need to bring outdoor cleats to wear on a field turf surface, and other proper athletic attire for the outdoors. The tryout will consist of testing that includes the 40-yard dash and 20-yard short shuttle followed by specific arena football drills.
Those attending the tryout from outside the metro area and are looking for a hotel should contact the Ramada Inn in Metairie (504-835-4141) for special rates. The Ramada Inn has set aside a block of hotel rooms at a special rate while supplies last.
