New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS, LA (October 27, 2010) - Today, The New Orleans VooDoo in conjunction with the Arena Football League announced the release of the 2011 Arena Football League Game Schedule. The Arena Football League 2011 Season will kick off the second weekend of March. This is the first season the AFL will be playing with an 18-game regular season schedule, making it the longest season in AFL history.
The Arena Football League announced last week that there were new division alignments for the 2011 season. New franchises, such as the New Orleans VooDoo, will highlight natural and re-spark old rivalries in all four divisions. The eighteen teams are split into the National and American Conference. The National Conference houses the West Division and Central Division. The American Conference divides into the South Division and East Division.
"This divisional alignment allows teams to revive some of their old rivalries while creating some natural new ones," Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz said. "We are very excited about the 2011 Arena Football season."
During the 18-game schedule, the VooDoo will play every South Division opponent twice and every American Conference team at least once.
Week 1 includes seven games stretched over a four day period starting on Friday, March 11, 2011. The first game of the season will be the American Conference Champions Tampa Bay Storm at the New Orleans VooDoo with kickoff time at 7 p.m. CST.
The NFL Network will once again broadcast the Friday Night Game of the Week. The NFL Network Schedule will be released shortly.
