The Amarillo ThunderHeads are pleased to announced Dr. Paul Matney as the voice of the ThunderHeads. Matney joins the ThunderHeads as a new era of baseball comes to Amarillo. "We were looking for that perfect person to bring a sense of true baseball professionalism back to the ballpark," said ThunderHeads GM Stephanie Tucker. "Dr. Matney is a trusted and respected staple in our community and we are so gracious that he is joining this organization." "I know that our fans are going to love him."

Matney, the former President of Amarillo College, currently is the public address announcer for Amarillo High football and baseball games and has a long standing presence in broadcasting.

Matney's 43-year career in higher education began in 1973 at West Texas State University, where he was an instructor and director of radio and television until moving to AC in 1979. Just one year after joining the AC faculty, Matney was named chair of the Language, Communication and Fine Arts Division. In 1989 he completed his doctoral studies at Texas Tech University and was named a full professor at AC. He was named to chair the Language, Communication and Fine Arts Division in 1980. In 2004 he became associate vice president of instruction, and in 2005 Matney was named vice president and dean of instruction. He culminated his career in education becoming the 13th president of Amarillo College. Many in the Panhandle also remember Dr. Matney as the weatherman for KAMR channel 4 in Amarillo. "Are you kidding me that we have a former weather man as our PA announcer - said manager Bobby Brown. "I can't think of a better fit with for the ThunderHeads."

ThunderHeads fans can get a first listen at Dr. Matney this Tuesday night as the ThunderHeads have their home opener vs St. Paul. First pitch is at 7:05.
