Joplin 10, Fargo-Moorhead 8

The Joplin Blasters took the lead early with a four-run first inning and held off the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to claim a 10-8 victory.

The Blasters grabbed the lead in the first inning as LF Yasser Gomez and Austin Gallagher hit back-to-back singles to score runs and DH Jake Taylor hit a two-run home run. Joplin added another run in the second and then put together a five-run rally in the fourth inning to take a 10-3 lead. The RedHawks chipped away the lead with three runs in the fifth and another pair in the sixth but the Blasters relievers allowed just two hits in the final three innings to preserve the win. Reliever Winston Abreu earned the save.

The two teams combined for 26 hits in the contest and eight players - four from each team - had multi-hit games. Gomez had three hits and three RBI to lead the Blasters and both LF Chad Mozingo and 2B Frank Salerno had three hits to pace the RedHawks. Starting pitcher Raydel Sanchez earned the win for his five innings of work on the mound.

Lincoln 5, Gary SouthShore 1

The Lincoln Saltdogs broke the scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth inning and ended up claiming a 5-1 win as they held the Gary SouthShore RailCats' bats at bay.

The Saltdogs pitching staff scattered seven hits and allowed just one run on the night and starting pitcher Luis Chirinos earned the win as he went five innings on the bump and gave up the one run in the fourth and recorded five strikeouts. Relievers Jared Graynor, Kaohi Downing and Conor Spink worked the final four innings and allowed just three hits and one walk. Offensively, the first eight batters in the Lincoln order each had at least one hit and 3B Curt Smith had a pair and an RBI. 1B C.J. Ziegler had a solo home run in the sixth inning

For the RailCats, CF Jon Jones had two hits and a RBI and SS Ryan Brockette added a pair of hits.
