Topeka Pilots News Release
The RoadRunners' promising start has been punctuated by stellar play in the net, particularly that of Drew Vogler. Two games into his RoadRunner career and Vogler is picking up honors as he has been named Easton's NAHL South Division Star of the Week. From the league release:
One of the bright, young prospects in the NAHL this year is likely to be Topeka RoadRunners goaltender Drew Vogler. Having just turned 17-years-old and already with an NCAA commitment to Merrimack, it was easy to see this weekend why scouts have been so high on the Florrisant, MO, native. In his first NAHL games, Vogler helped the RoadRunners to a weekend home sweep of the Corpus Christi Ice Rays. On Friday, in his NAHL debut, Vogler (6'1/207) made 32 saves as Topeka edged Corpus Christi 2-1. On Saturday, Vogler stopped all 16 shots that came his way for his first NAHL shutout. His save percentage during the weekend was an outstanding 98%.
"For playing in his first NAHL games, I thought Drew looked like a veteran out there," said RoadRunners Head Coach Scott Langer. "He played with a lot of composure and was solid all weekend. He really uses his size well and doesn't make the saves more difficult than they already are."
Also receiving notice was Tyler Poulsen, whose three points over the weekend (four points total counting Monday night's game) earned an honorable mention.
The RoadRunners are on their way to Blaine, along with every other team in the league, for the NAHL Showcase. Starting tomorrow at 1:30pm, the Runners will take on the Wenatchee Wild in the first of four games in four days. Thursday they will play Johnstown at 4:30pm, Friday it's the Soo Eagles at 1:15pm, and Saturday they will wrap up the trip against the Aberdeen Wings at 3:30. All of those games, and every game this season, will be broadcast live on Sports Radio 1490 AM and on iHeartRadio on your mobile device.
Topeka returns home on September 27th to take on the Springfield Jr Blues. Saturday night's game will be Youth Jersey Night, brought to you by Pella Windows, Lynette Hudson State Farm Insurance, Vision Bank, and the Kansas Expocentre. And every time the RoadRunners get 5,000 people in the arena this season, one lucky fan will walk away $5,000 richer courtesy of Sharp Honda. For more information on tickets, call 785-286-PUCK or visit the Expocentre Box Office.
