Visalia Snaps Skid to Even Series
July 18, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
The first half champs showed up to Sam Lynn Ballpark Sunday looking to exact some revenge. After losing their last four games to the Blaze, Visalia capitalized on a rare mistake by Bakersfield to win Game 2, 9-3.
It wasn't one of the better games played this season between the Blaze and Rawhide as the clubs combined for six errors, but Gianfranco Wawoe's fielding mistake in the seventh inning proved to be the difference.
Despite committing four errors, Visalia's offense provided some much needed support. The Rawhide scored nine runs off of 14 hits as the team was an efficient 6-18 with runners in scoring position.
Tyler Pike was scrappy enough to leave after six innings after throwing 92 pitches. The southpaw was not charged with the loss, but did give up three runs on eight hits.
Markus Solbach lasted 5.1 innings for the Rawhide, but he gave way to Nick Baker (4-1) who earned the victory.
Wawoe's error in the seventh inning helped the Rawhide regain a lead that they had surrendered. The typically reliable second baseman misplayed a ball hit to him off the bat of Cody Regis. That error started the inning and rally against Isaac Sanchez (L, 2-2) as the right-hander could not recover.
After Zach Nehrir struck out, Victor Reyes singled to left field, setting things up for Marty Herum.
With two on and one out, Herum doubled to center scoring both runners to give Visalia a 5-3 cushion. In was more than enough for the Rawhide, but they scored four more runs in the ninth inning just for good measure off of Ramon Morla.
Game 3 is Dollar Monday at Sam Lynn Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45pm with Dan Besbris on the call courtesy of TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
