Memphis Xplorers News Release

HUNTSVILLE - The Memphis Xplorers of af2 came up short in their bid for a second consecutive road win, losing 43-33 to the Tennessee Valley Vipers at the Von Braun Center.

Tennessee Valley QB Brian Snyder threw two TD passes, and the ball-hawking Vipers defense forced three turnovers, including a 48-yard interception return for a touchdown by DS Henry Freeman.

The Xplorers got most of their offense on the ground and on special teams, with WR/DB Reginald Perkins picking up a touchdown rush early in the game, and OS Kevin Prentiss returning two kickoffs for scores.

The Xplorers trailed throughout, never quite able to break through the Tennessee Valley defense. Memphis's defense also caused the Vipers problems, and the score at the end of three quarters was a very low 22-17.

But two TD catches by Rodney Daniels, coupled with two of the Xplorers interceptions early in the fourth quarter, cripped Memphis's ability to come up with the victory.

The Xplorers were led in receiving yardage by Prentiss, who caught seven passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. QB Brian Jones finished the game 16 for 29 for 252 yards, one TD and three interceptions.

The loss dropped the Xplorers to 2-2 on the season, while Tennessee Valley improved to 3-1 on the campaign. Memphis will be in action again next Saturday, May 8, as they host the 3-1 Louisville Fire at the DeSoto Civic Center at 7:05 pm.
