LAREDO, Texas – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados beat the Laredo Law 58-38 on Saturday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center in front of 4,869 fans. The Law drops to 0-4, while the Dorados improve to 3-1. Quarterback Will Burch threw seven TD passes for Rio Grande Valley in the game. The Law is on the road in Oklahoma City this coming weekend. The Law got off to a quick start. QB Josh Rogers found WR/LB Melvin Phillips over the middle on a slant pattern for an eight yard touchdown strike on Laredo's opening possession. It was the first lead of the season for the Law. The Dorados answered with a 38-yard touchdown pass from Burch to WR/DB Kendall Williams with 8:30 to go in the quarter. The Law came back with a 23-yard field goal attempt by kicker Brian Hegnauer with 3:19 left in the first for a 9-7 Laredo lead.

Early in the second quarter the Law extended their lead to 15-10 when QB Rocky Perez found a wide open WR/DB P.J. Winston with a 21-yard TD pass with 11 minutes to go in the half. Rio answered as Burch found WR/DB Manwell Talbert with a 35-yard TD strike with 3:00 minutes to go in the half to pull the Valley within 21-16. The Dorados took the lead when they blocked a field goal and recovered on the Laredo four yard line. Burch found Talbert from three yards out for a 23-21 Rio Grande Valley advantage. Laredo responded with a 36-yard field goal by Hegnauer with no time left in the first half for a 24-23 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter the Dorados began to pull away. Burch found Williams with a five-yard touchdown pass to give Rio the lead for good, 30-24. Then Burch hit Talbert with a 26-yard TD pass early in the fourth quarter to make it 37-24 Dorados. Offensive specialist Martino Theus got the Law back into the game with a seven yard touchdown catch at 37-30, but the Dorados pulled away again. Burch hit Talbert from six-yards out and WR/DB Mike Duncan from 38-yards. Perez capped the Law scoring with a 17-yard pass to WR/DB P.J. Winston. Dorados WR/DB Rico Gardner returned a Law onside kick 12-yards for a touchdown with six second to go. FINAL SCORE Rio Grande Valley 58, Laredo 38.
