HIDALGO, Texas, February 8, 2015 - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (16-15) fell 148-105 to the Texas Legends (16-14) tonight at State Farm Arena. RGV leads the season series versus the Legends 4-2. The two teams have faced off four times in the past 10 days.
Glen Rice, Jr. led the Vipers with 16 points. Houston Rockets assignee Clint Capela added 13 points. Jaron Johnson and Akeem Richmond each scored 12 points.
Renaldo Balkman led the Legends with 29 points and 10 rebounds. William Buford scored 26 points. Booker Woodfox added 24 points, followed by Justin Jackson with 19 points. Mike James tallied 17 points and 11 assists.
The score tied five times in the first quarter before Griffin sank a three-pointer for the Legends to put Texas up 13-10 with 7:48 on the clock. Texas' lead continued to grow throughout the quarter. By the end of the first quarter, Texas led 33-21.
Texas built its lead throughout the second quarter. The Legends outscored RGV 42-27 in the quarter and led 75-48 at halftime.
The Legends continued to control the game during the second half. At the end of the third quarter, RGV trailed 112-78. Texas outscored the Vipers 36-27 to close the game with a 148-105 win.
Tonight's 43-point deficit is the largest loss margin in Vipers franchise history. In the team's inaugural 2007-08 season, RGV fell 110-75 (35 points) at Austin on March 20, 2008.
RGV heads into the NBA All-Star Break this week. The NBA D-League All-Star game will take place Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, NY. NBA TV will broadcast the game live 1:30 p.m. (CT).
