Vipers Send Martin to Flint for Right Wing Matt Elich

ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), announced today that they have traded rookie winger L.P. Martin to the Flint Generals for veteran right wing Matt Elich.

Elich, 27, has tallied 37 points (22G, 15A) in 45 games so far this season with the Generals. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound wing has spent time in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), International Hockey League (IHL), ECHL, American Hockey League (AHL), and also played 16 games over two seasons with the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning in 1999-00 and 2000-01, scoring two NHL points (1G, 1A). Elich has flourished in this season, his first in the UHL, and is on pace to come close to matching his career-high 74 points in 1998-99 with the (OHL) Kingston Frontenacs.

A native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Elich will wear jersey number 27 for Roanoke Valley, and Jonathan Charette will switch to jersey number 19.

The Vipers also announced today that they have released backup goaltender Dave Marlin from his 14-day Professional Try-Out Agreement (PTO).
