ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League, revealed today that the name of the team's new mascot will be "Stryker". Fans were asked to submit their suggestions for mascot names in a contest which was held June 6th through June 24th.

"We are so pleased with the response we received for our ‘Name the Mascot' contest," says team owner and governor Kristen Dixon. "The outpouring of support and interest we've received from the community has been overwhelming since we announced that we were bringing a team to the Valley."

"Stryker" was one of 321 entries received by the Vipers in response to the contest. The winning entry was submitted by Tom Hardy of Troutville, Virginia, who will receive four season tickets for the Vipers' inaugural season in Roanoke. Seven runners-up, who submitted the name "Striker", will receive a consolation prize as well.

The new mascot is expected to be introduced in person to the fans and the public sometime in August. Details on a date and time for the event will be released as they become available.
