
Vipers place six on all-af2 teams

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The af2 office announced today that the Tennessee Valley Vipers placed six players on the all-af2 American Conference team, one on the first team and five on the second team.
Wes Stephens made the first-team after recording a Viper record 11.5 sacks and eight forced fumbles this season. He finished tied for second in af2 in sacks and led the league in fumbles forced. He also recorded 22.5 tackles, two pass break ups and led the Vipers with 39 quarterback hits. He also caught four passes for 33 yards and a touchdown.
The second-team was led by quarterback, Matt Sauk. He completed 315-539 passes for 4,098 yards and 84 touchdowns. He finished third in af2 in passing yards (256.1) and third in total offense (253.6). He finished the season with a 108.7 quarterback rating. He was also named second-team in 2001.
Cutis Jeter was named to the offensive/defensive line after recording 10.0 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss of 15 yards, 3.0 sacks for 17 yards, two pass break ups, 11 quarterback hits, two fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. He was also named second-team in 2001.
Kenny Bailey was named to the second-team as a defensive specialist, despite missing three games with a broke foot. He led the team with 81.0 tackles and added four interceptions, 21 pass break ups and two forced fumbles. He set a Viper record by returning three interceptions for touchdowns.
Mark Lewis was named second-team kicker after leading the league in scoring for kickers with 129 points. He converted 10-17 field goals and 99-112 extra points. He led the af2 in field goal percentage (58.8), extra points made and extra point percentage (88.3). He tied a Viper record with three field goals in a game at Bossier City and set a new record for consecutive extra points made with 32.
Jerrian James also made the second team on special teams. He returned 35 kickoffs for 761 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 36 yards on 16 carries and scored four touchdowns and caught 55 passes for 832 yards and 18 touchdowns. He recorded 45.5 tackles, one interception and nine pass break ups on defense. He also completed three passes for touchdowns.
Stephens joins Todd Latourette and Kelly Snell as the only Vipers to make first team all-af2. The Vipers have had 10 players make the all-af2 second-team.
