
Vipers End Sioux Falls' Streak

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (6-4) ended the Sioux Falls Skyforce's (7-3) seven-game win streak with a 105-90 victory tonight at State Farm Arena.
Jaron Johnson led the Vipers with a double-double 24 points and 10 rebounds, and shot 4-for-6 from three-point range. Houston Rockets assignee Montrezl Harrell added 21 points and 6 rebounds. Raphiael Putney scored a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Will Cummings recorded 13 points.
The Vipers held Sioux Falls to its lowest opponent field goal percentage (37.3 percent) of the season. RGV also recorded its largest rebound margin of the season, outrebounding Sioux Falls 56-42.
Rodney McGruder led the Skyforce with 18 points, followed by Jabril Trawick with 16 points. Tre Kelley scored 15 points, and Miami HEAT assignee Jarnell Stokes scored 11 points.
Sioux Falls only lead of the game came during the first quarter. The Skyforce held a 4-point advantage three times during the quarter. A free throw from Jarvis Threatt tied the game at 19 points with 2:36 on the clock. RGV ended the first quarter on a 10-2 run to steal a 29-21 lead.
The Vipers outscored the Skyforce 30-23 in the second quarter to hold a 59-44 advantage at halftime. Sioux Falls fought back in the third quarter, outscoring the Vipers 26-17 in the quarter to close their deficit to 76-70 at the end of the quarter. However, RGV held on throughout the fourth quarter. A layup from Threatt gave the Vipers' their largest lead of the game, 97-73, with 6:15 remaining.
The Vipers will host the team's annual Kids Day Game Thursday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. (CST) versus the Austin Spurs at State Farm Arena. On Friday, RGV travels to Austin for a 7:30 p.m. (CST) tipoff. Then, the Vipers head west for a pair of back-to-back games in California. On Sunday, Dec. 20 RGV visits the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 7 p.m. (CST). Then, on Monday, Dec. 21, the Vipers visit the Bakersfield Jam at 9 p.m. (CST).
