HIDALGO, Texas -- Terrence Jones' 31 points led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers past the Iowa Energy 139-118 tonight at State Farm Arena.
Additionally, Glen Rice, Jr. scored 22 points. Andrew Goudelock followed with 20 points. D.J. Kennedy added 18 points. Chris Daniels and Hassan Whiteside scored 14 points each.
Alex Ruoff led the Energy with 22 points, followed by Paul Harris with 20 points. Justin Hurtt added 18 points. Robert Hite recorded 17 points, and Othyus Jeffers finished with 14 points.
The Energy held their only lead of the night early in the first half. They led by four points three times in the first quarter. Their last lead was 24-20 at the 3:25 mark. Jones sank a jump shot, plus one at the line. Kennedy followed with an alley-oop from Rice, Jr. to take the 25-24 lead. The Vipers never looked back. At the end of the first quarter, RGV was up 39-32, and the Vipers entered the half with the 69-55 lead.
The Vipers controlled the second half of the game. Two shots from the line by Singletary gave RGV its largest lead, 27 points, with 8:21 left in the game. The Vipers won 139-118.
The Vipers are on the road this weekend. Saturday, March 23 RGV faces the Erie BayHawks in a 6 p.m. CT game. Sunday March 24, the Vipers visit the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in a nationally televised game.
