
Vipers Acquire Shawn Occeus

EDINBURG, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers announced today that the team has acquired forward Shawn Occeus.
Most recently, Occeus (6-4, 210lbs) was part of the Vipers training camp roster. He played the 2021-22 campaign overseas with the Niagara River Lions of the Canadian Elite Basketball League and the Phoenix Hagan of the German Pro A League. With the Lions he appeared in four games averaging 4.5 points, 1.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks. During his tenure with Phoenix, Occeus averaged 13.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.0 steals in 30 games.
The Florida native spent the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons with the Vipers. He played in 33 games, 16 of which he started, and averaged 4.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 17.1 minutes.
He played the 2016-19 campaigns at the collegiate level with the Northeastern Huskies. During his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons he totaled 670 points, 182 rebounds, 115 assists, 110 assists, 2,0004 minutes and 79 games, 61 games in which he started. In 2018 he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year.
RGV opens the regular season on the road this week taking on the Delaware Blue Coats on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 6:00 p.m. CT at Chase Fieldhouse. The team will then travel to Maine to take on the Maine Celtics on Friday, Dec. 30 at 4:00 p.m. CT and Saturday, Dec. 31 at 2:00 p.m. CT at Portland Expo Building.
