SHOWCASE CUP CHAMPIONS: With guard Xavier Moon connecting on the game-winning basket, the Ontario Clippers defeated the Windy City Bulls 99-97 to win the 2022 Showcase Cup Championship. LA Clippers assignee Brandon Boston Jr. was named Showcase Cup MVP averaging 29.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 blocks in his team's three-straight wins in the tournament.
REGULAR SEASON START: The NBA G League regular season begins tonight with a slate of six games tipping off the action. All 30 G League teams will have their records reset as they begin a 32-game regular season on the road to the NBA G League Championship. The league will be split into Eastern and Western conferences with the top six teams in each conference qualifying for the NBA G League Playoffs presented by Google Pixel, followed by the NBA G League Finals presented by YouTube TV in April 2023.
The defending champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers and the Delaware Blue Coats will open the season with a Finals rematch at the Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington tonight at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
IGNITE AND CAPITANES: For the first time, both NBA G League Ignite and the Mexico City Capitanes will participate in the G League's regular season. Both teams will play a full 32-game schedule and compete for the 2022-23 NBA G League title. Ignite opens their regular season at The Dollar Loan Center against the Showcase Cup champion Ontario Clippers at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN+, while Capitanes starts their season tomorrow night by hosting the Salt Lake City Stars at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
ALL-SHOWCASE TEAM
BRANDON BOSTON JR., ONTARIO CLIPPERS: Boston Jr. impressed in his team's three wins to take home the Showcase Cup trophy and the tournament's MVP honors.
His biggest performance came in their first round 121-95 win over the Iowa Wolves as Boston poured in 33 points.
ISAIAH MOBLEY, CLEVELAND CHARGE: The rookie big man and Cavaliers two-way player displayed his all-around game during the team's Showcase Cup matchups.
Mobley averaged 27.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.0 blocks in Showcase Cup play.
TRE MANN, OKLAHOMA CITY BLUE: Thunder assignment player Mann led all scorers at the Winter Showcase with 37.5 points per game.
TERRY TAYLOR, FORT WAYNE MAD ANTS: On assignment from the Indiana Pacers, Taylor scored 46 points, the most by any player this Winter Showcase, in Fort Wayne's 132-131 over the Oklahoma City Blue.
KENNETH LOFTON JR., MEMPHIS HUSTLE: Lofton Jr., a Grizzlies two-way player, led the Hustle to two wins at the Winter Showcase, averaging 27.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists.
