Victoria Seals Unveil Coaching Staff

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Seals are proud to announce the addition of Kip Gross and Josh Arhart to the club's coaching staff for the 2010 Golden Baseball League season. Gross will take on pitching coach duties this year, while Arhart returns to the club as both a player and bench coach.
Gross, a former major leaguer with the Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros, is best known for his prolific career in the Japanese Pacific League. The native of Scottsbluff, Nebraska led both the Nippon Ham Fighters and the JPL in wins from 1995-1996, before retiring in the year 2000.
"Kip is both an excellent pitcher, and a good friend of mine," said Seals field manager Bret Boone. "He will bring a wealth of experience on the mound to our organization, and will be the kind of guy our young pitchers can learn a lot from."
Arhart, a Golden Baseball League All-Star in 2009, rejoins the Seals as one of the club's veteran leaders. The Santa Ana, California product will likely serve as the team's starting catcher after leading the Seals with a .325 batting average one year ago. This will be the UCLA graduate's third season in the GBL, after earning the league championship with Orange County in 2008.
"Having Josh return to the team as a coach will be a real benefit to both the players and myself," added Boone. "He has a great understanding of the league and an even better relationship with the guys in the clubhouse, and those are invaluable traits to have on this team."
Boone, Gross and Arhart have already begun crafting the latest edition of the Victoria Seals, with spring training set to open in just six weeks time.
