Victoria Seals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Taking to the turf at Telus Field for a second straight night, the Victoria Seals squared off against the Edmonton Capitals in game two of a three game series on Tuesday night. With the home side sending 2009 returnee Chris Little (1-1) to the mound, the Seals responded with Kyle Wilson (0-1) in the battle of capital cities.

Grabbing a commanding lead in the bottom of the first inning, Edmonton went up 3-0 when a lead-off single from Ryan Stevenson, followed by a walk to Jorge Cortes, opened the door for a three-run home run off the bat of Larry Bigbie.

Responding with a home run of their own in the top of the second, Chris Van Rossum put the Seals on the board with his team-leading fourth round tripper of the year. The Capitals bounced back in the bottom of the frame, however, using three consecutive walks from Wilson to load the bases and stretch their lead to 4-1.

With Andrew Arreola strong out of the bullpen, Victoria began their comeback bid in the top of the fourth, pulling within one with the help of back-to-back singles from Colin Moro and Matt Kavanaugh before Brian Rios scored both runners with a double to left-centre field.

Evening the game in the top of the sixth, Kavanaugh factored into the scoring again by converting a double into a 4-4 tie, coming home on an error to Edmonton shortstop Matt Rogelstad. Victoria then grabbed their first lead of the game in the seventh, using a bases-loaded sacrifice fly courtesy of Colin Moro to jump ahead 5-4.

Striking back with a rally of their own, Edmonton evened the score on a pinch-hit home run from Steve Brown in the bottom of the eighth inning. After walks to Stevenson and Bigbie chased Chris Bodishbaugh from the mound, a bloop single into shallow left field from Tom Collaro scored both runners, handing the home side a 7-5 advantage.

Unable to produce a run against closer Chad Blackwell for the second consecutive night, the Seals drop their third-straight heartbreaker by a 7-5 final score.

Ryan Paul claimed the win in relief for the Capitals, while Chris Bodishbaugh was tagged with his second loss of the year through just two thirds of an inning of work. Larry Bigbie's 2-for-3, four RBI outing led the way for the home side, while three hits from both Matt Kavanaugh and Brian Rios were not enough for the Seals.

Victoria wraps up this five-game road trip with the series finale against the Capitals, a 6:00 p.m. (PT) start time at Telus Field tomorrow night. The contest will broadcast live via www.victoriaseals.ca. The Seals then return home to play three straight against Edmonton, concluding Sunday afternoon with Father's Day at Royal Athletic Park.
