Victoria, BC - The Victoria Seals are proud to announce that they have signed Jeff Duda (RHP), Devon Franklin (INF) and Scott Wallis (INF) for the upcoming 2010 Golden Baseball League season. The three are the first Canadian prospects to be contracted by the team ahead of spring training camp, which begins May 8th at Royal Athletic Park.
"This trio of Canadian guys is something I'm really proud to report," said Seals President Darren Parker. "It's always nice to have some homegrown talent vying for a spot on the team, and it also gives us the opportunity to foster the tradition of successful baseball players from north of the border."
Duda joins the Seals after an impressive season with the Okotoks Dawgs of the Western Major Baseball League. The Surrey, BC product led his team with a 6-1 record while posting a 2.44 earned runs average and a league-high 82 strikeouts.
Franklin also comes to Victoria by way of the Okotoks Dawgs, where he played his 2007 and 2008 seasons alongside recently signed Seals outfielder Colin Moro. The North Delta, BC native also collected 12 hits in just 30 at-bats during the 2009 World Baseball Challenge as a member of Team British Columbia.
Wallis brings professional baseball experience to the Seals after spending two seasons in the Northern League, split between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and Edmonton Cracker-Cats. The product of Campbell River, BC picked up 10 runs batted in over the course of 43 games as a utility infielder.
The 2010 Victoria Seals season kicks off May 21 when the brand new Na Koa Ikaika Maui arrive at Royal Athletic Park.
