Victoria Seals News Release
VICTORIA, BC - The Golden Baseball League's Victoria Seals will be hosting a one day tryout camp at Serauxman Stadium in Nanaimo, BC on March 21, 2009. Registration is at 8:30am with the camp following that. The teams first tryout camp in Irvine, CA was successful in signing three players to 2009 contracts.
Owner, Darren Parker is expecting good results from the region, "Historically this region has produced some very skilled players. We are very excited about the possibility of signing some local talent to a contract."
Seals Manager, 21 year Major League veteran, Darrell Evans and seasoned Coach Dan DiPace will be facilitating the camp.
The Nanaimo facility is regarded as one of the top amateur baseball venues in the province and the field drainage renovations last spring make it in good condition for the March camp.
"Nanaimo Minor Baseball is thrilled to see professional baseball return to the Island and are very pleased the Seals will be bringing a try-out camp to Serauxmen Stadium on March 21st," said Greg Entwistle, Treasurer -Nanaimo Minor Baseball Association.
College or professional experience is required for all athletes attending the tryouts. The registration form can be down loaded at www.victoriaseals.ca or will be available at registration on Saturday. Space is limited, and will be filled in a first come first served order. The cost is $60 and players are required to bring their own equipment: gloves, bats, cleats, catcher's gear. Concessions will be open should they wish to purchase lunch.
Players signed from this camp will compete for roster spots at Seals Spring Training in mid May. The Seals start on the road in Edmonton on May 21, before the May 29th home opener at Royal Athletic Park vs. the Long Beach Armada.
