February 24, 2005 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Sioux Falls Storm News Release
The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) is pleased to announce the re-signing of two former starters from the 2004 Conference Championship team. Wide receiver and back-up quarterback Casey Veenhof and defensive back Shannon Poppinga both have declared themselves a part of the Storm Football organization for another season.
Veenhof is a graduate from Huron University where he was an All-Conference quarterback and wide receiver for the Tribe. Veenhof will play his third season with the Storm after an impressive 2004 campaign. He played in 13 of the Storm's 14-game regular season schedule and caught 49 passes for a total of 688 yards for the season, second overall for the Storm last year. To compliment his 49 receptions, he also crossed the goal line 20 times for touchdowns.
Poppinga earned All-American status playing collegiate ball for Augustana College and will be joining the Storm again for his forth season. Last year Poppinga was plagued by injury and was only in the line-up for six games, but did make an impact in that limited time frame. "Poppy" had a total of nine tackles, with 7 being solo and also returned ten kicks for a total of 172 yards. Poppinga will be looked at by the Storm to take charge as on of the veterans on and off the field this season.
The Storm will open its first season of play in the UIF on March 19th against the Omaha Beef in Omaha. Season tickets for the 2005 season are on-sale now. To order, call the Storm office at 605-332-4225 or visit the Storm online at www.siouxfallsstorm.com.
