Sioux Falls Storm News Release
Veteran Storm Player, Cory Johnsen, and the Sioux Falls Storm are pleased to announce the return of Sacks for Cash for the 2015 Sioux Falls Storm season. "Sacks for Cash" is a charitable program founded in 2008 by Cory in conjunction with the Sioux Falls Storm. Funds are donated per sack the Storm "Thunder" Defense tallies during a season. Each year a new nonprofit organization is chosen to receive donations.
"This year, I want to raise money that will go towards a local military based nonprofit or organization. With that in mind, I have decided to partner with Volunteers of America, Dakotas," explained Johnsen. "This partnership will be a great collaboration and together we can raise a significant amount of money to help enhance the programs Volunteers of America, Dakotas offers to local Veterans."
Becky Deelstra, Managing Director of Business and Marketing with Volunteers of America, Dakotas commented on the partnership.
"There are so many organizations in our community that are helping people. We are incredibly honored to be the recipient of dollars raised by Sacks for Cash. Money raised by this program will directly impact Veterans in our community through our Veterans Outreach, Berakhah House and our Veterans Per Diem Programs."
Business and individuals can pledge any dollar amount per sack. Currently, Orthopedic Institute, JJ's Wine & Spirits, Heritage Funeral Home, Riggs Premier Football Academy, Empire Chiropractic, 10th Street Autawash, Fareway Stores, Storm Season ticket holder Jerry Mckinley, Dave Alpers, Sioux Falls Shopping News, Stubbies Bar & Grill, USA Garage Floor, Western Commercial Printing and the Royal Fork have committed to sponsoring Sacks for Cash. Sponsors will be recognized on a banner at all home Storm games, along with mentions with any media coverage and social media outlets.
"Most businesses do anywhere from $10-$25 per sack, however there is no set minimum or maximum dollar amount. Some even just donate a total dollar amount regardless of how many sacks. The goal is to raise as much money as possible for Volunteers of America, Dakotas Veterans programs. I have set a goal of $200 per sack, which in turn could raise $10,000 or more. As of right now, we are exactly half way to the $200 per sack total.," said Johnsen.
