May 1, 2006 - SPHL (SPHL)
Twin City Cyclones News Release
Pee Dee Cyclones Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations, Mark Richards, has announced that Edan Welch has agreed to terms for the 2006-07 hockey season and thus becomes the first player to sign in Pee Dee for the upcoming SPHL season. The twenty-eight year old native of Oromocto, New Brunswick was the Cyclones leading scorer last season with 37 goals and 32 assists for 69 points. Welch was also the only Cyclones player to appear in all 56 regular season games. He was named an All-Star on the SPHL's second team and in the playoffs scored four points (1 goal & 3 assists) in four games against Knoxville.
The 2005-06 season was the best of Welch's four professional campaigns. He had previously played for three years in Macon, Georgia with the SPHL's Macon Trax. "I am, obviously, pleased to have Edan Welch back with the Pee Dee Cyclones for the coming hockey season," Cyclones coach Mark Richards said. "Edan wanted to return to the Pee Dee and didn't want to play anywhere else. Anytime you can get a 30+ goal scorer you certainly want to jump at the opportunity."
