(Southaven, MS) --- The Central Hockey League (CHL) Northeast Division champions Mississippi RiverKings have announced the return of Stephen Margeson to its roster for the 2009-2010 season, according to Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski.

"Margy brings a great work ethic and professionalism," Kaminski notes. "He's a guy who "PRIDES" on coming to the rink day in and day out with an awesome attitude and works on every aspect of his game to better himself and his teammates around him."

The Banff, Alberta native played both forward and defense for the RiverKings last season, scoring 12 goals and adding 19 assists for 31 points with 78 penalty minutes in 55 games played. He scored six power play goals and had one game winner.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Margeson knows he plays a vital role in his ability to produce at both ends of the rink. "Just in case we do have an injury that pops up, he (Kaminski) doesn't have to go out and get somebody. He can always put me back there." I like to play forward, I have a lot of fun playing forward, but if the team needs me back there (on defense) I don't mind going back there."

In the playoffs, Margeson scored three goals and had seven points with 18 penalty minutes in 12 contests. Two of his three playoff goals were power play goals.

An injury-plagued 2007-08 campaign saw Margeson play just two games with the Youngstown SteelHounds and 19 games with the American Hockey League's Lake Erie Monsters. Margeson's resume also includes two games played in Syracuse of the AHL during 2006-07 season.

The 2006-07 season in Youngstown for Margeson was his best statistically, as he scored 17 goals and added 22 assists for 39 points with 125 penalty minutes in 64 regular season appearances. In the playoffs, he scored three goals for five points and 34 PIMS in six contests. Margeson was recognized by his teammates at the end of the season by earning the SteelHounds' Most Improved Player award as well as being named the team's "Unsung Hero."

After starting his professional career with the New Mexico Scorpions in 2002, Margeson was sent during the season to the Memphis RiverKings, where he went on to play four seasons before his move to Youngstown.

Kaminski likes Margeson's versatility and drive to improve. "He knows what it takes to get to the next level and wants to get there," Kaminski says. Margy will start up front, but if we do have an injury on the back end we know we have that insurance for him to go back there and do a great job for us."

Margeson's drive to improve includes a desire to produce more points and be a positive presence on the ice. "I'd like to increase the points I get and hopefully I can contribute a little bit more in scoring and everything," Margeson said. "I'd like to also work on my plus-minus and bring that ranking up."
