November 30, 2010 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Vermont Frost Heaves News Release
With players reporting to camp just in just a few days, the Vermont Frost Heaves are pleased to announce the addition of three more players to their training camp roster. Dwight Brewington, Bilal Benn, and Lorenzo Davis have all signed with the team.
Brewington, a 6'5" small forward originally from Providence, RI, is no stranger to the Heaves or the Barre Auditorium. Last season, Brewington played for the Frost Heaves arch-rival Manchester, averaging just under 17 points per game for the Mill Rats. Originally starting out his college career at Providence in the Big East, Brewington averaged 14 points and 4 rebounds per game during his sophomore season for the Friars, before transferring and finishing his collegiate career at Liberty University. In 2007, he was selected in the 3rd round of the NBA D-league draft by the Tulsa 66'ers where he averaged 7 points and 3 rebounds per game. Brewington has also played professionally in Mexico, Israel, and Slovakia.
"Dwight will bring a lot of pro experience and scoring to our backcourt. He hurt us a few times last year while playing for Manchester so I'm glad he will be in a Heaves uniform this season" commented Head Coach Joe Salerno.
The Heaves have also signed 6'5" shooting guard Bilal Benn. Benn, who is from Philadelphia, played 2 seasons for Villanova (also in the Big East) before transferring and finishing his college ball at Niagara University. In 2008-2009 while playing for the Purple Eagles, Benn averaged close to a double-double at 13.8 points, and 9.3 rebounds per game, earning him 1st team All-MAAC honors, as well as tops in the league in rebounding. Last season Benn was a late addition to Overense, a team in Portugal's top division, where he averaged 7.8 points and 6 rebounds per game for the teams last 7 games of the season.
"I just want to thank the Frost Heaves organization for accepting me into their basketball family and hopefully I can help them win ball games" stated Benn. "Bilal, is a true competitor. Anyone who is 6'5" and can lead the MAAC in rebounding is as tough as they come. He will be a great addition to this team as well as the community" commented Salerno.
The Frost Heaves have also added another big man to their training camp roster in Lorenzo Davis. Davis, a 6'10" 240 lbs center from Los Angeles, CA, has been playing at the pro level for the last 5 years. He has had NBA workouts with the Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzles, as well as spending time in the NBA D-league with the Bakersfield Jam and Albuquerque Thunderbirds. Davis, who played his collegiate ball at Mountain State, has also played in the IBL and the CBA. Most recently he played with the Dallas Star of the UBA, where he averaged 20 points, and 10 rebounds per game.
"Lorenzo is blue collar type player. Someone who will come to work every day with his hard hat on, looking to be physical, play defense, and rebound the ball, all things that are necessary to win games in this league. We are excited to have Lorenzo in camp" stated Salerno.
The Frost Heaves official training camp kicks off Monday, December 6th, with players arriving in Barre this weekend. Look for the Heaves official training camp roster on Friday of this week. The Heaves open their season with an exhibition game in Saint John on Saturday, December 11th.
