Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 2/10/11 -With the start of training camp less the 24 hours away, the Amarillo Venom is pleased to be welcoming back nearly 10 people from last year's Lonestar West Division Championship team.
Rodney Blackshear, Head Coach of the Amarillo Venom, said having a core group of guys back from last year's team is very important.
"We are excited about the guys we have coming back," said Coach Blackshear. "Having those veteran guys around will be very beneficial and will help the younger guys learn our system a lot quicker. They may be battling for the same position, but we all have the same goal of winning a championship and these veterans are willing to do anything necessary to make that happen."
Players returning to camp from last year's team include: Darrius Battles, Kendrick Bournes, Donta Bright, Anthony Clark, Cale Fischer, DuVaughn Flagler, Cashmin Thomas, Jared Williams, and Kyle Wilson.
Coach Blackshear said he is expecting a very competitive camp, which is important to making a team better.
"You need somebody pushing you, trying to take your position," said Coach Blackshear. "If nobody is pushing you, you're going to become content and you're not going to get any better."
Outside of the nine returning players, the Amarillo Venom welcome 35 new faces into training camp. Coach Blackshear will have the difficult task of trimming the roster down to 25 following the team's February 20th exhibition game against the Allen Wranglers.
Tickets for the February 20th exhibition game are on sale through the Amarillo Venom front office, located at 901 S. Buchanan in downtown Amarillo, and single game tickets for the regular season go on sale February 18th. Those looking for season tickets or single game tickets can stop by the front office or call (806) 350-PASS (7277).
