Nashville Venom News Release

NASHVILLE- The 2014 Professional Football Indoor League (PIFL) Champion Nashville Venom prided themselves on being like a family during their championship run. It wasn't unfamiliar to see guys hanging out around Nashville during the season.

With the offseason upon us and a lot of the team spread out across the country, some that stayed in town are keeping the family tradition going. Recently players Zachary Ducker, George Murray, B.J. Taylor and Ken Walton joined Assistant General Manager Tyler Bryant representing the team at the Tennessee Special Olympics Showcase in Antioch, Tennessee.

Then PIFL Offensive Player of the Year Phillip Barnett joined Ducker, Taylor and Walton along with Assistant Coach Tim Medlin at the Our Savior Lutheran Academy October Fest in Brentwood, Tennessee, where about 500 people attended and the players played football with a number of youth. The team has made a concerted effort to be more visible around the community. These events seemed to give back to them.

"The guys had a ball and were a big hit," said Medlin regarding October Fest. "The players and I spent hours working different games for the kids. Having all of those people there was tremendous. So many came to us saying how excited they are about the upcoming season."

The Special Olympic event was just as exciting for the team. Bryant and the players participated in the 'Gauntlet Catch Drill'. In the drill the participants had to run to five different spots and catch a pass from Murray which Ducker and Walton assisted in for them to get to the next spot. Then they had to run over Taylor who is 6'3" and 300 pounds. When they participants scored the players celebrated and danced with them. After the event, Walton emceed the awards ceremony.

"I am pretty sure they we had just as much or even more fun than anyone else there," said Bryant. It was a highly rewarding experience for all of us to be involved in. The smiles on everyone's faces were priceless. The whole organization looks forward to the continued partnership with the Tennessee Special Olympics for years to come."
