ROCKFORD - Rockford head coach Javier "Jav" Vela, who has managed the Thunder for the last four seasons, has resigned as the team's manager the team announced Monday night.

Vela's best season at the helm came in 2005, his first as the manager, as he guided the Thunder to a final record of 35-12. He had four 20-win seasons and two postseason appearances during his tenure, including leading the team the NPF Championship Game in 2007.

For his career, Vela had an overall record of 98 wins and 89 losses.

"We're extremely grateful for the five years (Vela was an assistant coach during the '04 season) Jav gave to the Thunder," said General Manager Aaron M. Moore. "He is an absolute professional and a wonderful teacher of the game. His passion and knowledge are things we will always be grateful for as an organization."

Moore said Jim Sherwood would be named the team's new manager during a Tuesday press conference. A search for a new assistant coach to replace Sherwood will begin immediately. Interested applicants are asked to email resumes to Moore at amoore@thunderprofastpitch.com.
