Rockford Thunder News Release
ROCKFORD - The Rockford Thunder named assistant coach James Sherwood the team's third manager in club history on Tuesday afternoon. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.
Sherwood will replace Javier Vela who resigned after four seasons as the Thunder manager. Vela was 98-89 during his career at the helm. Wayne Daigle was the head coach in 2004 and he was assisted by his wife Lisa and by Vela. The '04 club finished its inaugural season in the NPF with a record of 41-17.
"It's a great opportunity that the Thunder organization has given me," said Sherwood. "This is the top level of professional fastpitch and I look forward to the challenges ahead."
"This is an exciting day for the Thunder organization as a whole," stated General Manager Aaron M. Moore. "Coach Sherwood has been with us since we've made the move to Illinois and I feel he is ready for this challenge.
We feel that having a coach that is local and that can get out into the community and assist with those things are key to our success," Moore continued. "We're looking forward to positive things the remainder of this off season and into the 2009 NPF season."
A search for a new assistant coach to replace the position voided by Sherwood will begin immediately. Interested applicants are asked to email resumes to Moore at amoore@thunderprofastpitch.com.
