
Vaughn Grissom, Jared Shuster Named Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves and Farm Bureau are excited to announce that infielder Vaughn Grissom and starting pitcher Jared Shuster have been named the Farm Bureau Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Grissom, 21, in his first week in Double-A, hit .462 (12-for-26) with a triple, home run, five RBI, three runs, and three stolen bases. The Oviedo, FL native posted a 1.154 OPS, hitting in all six games, and logged two three-hit games and a pair of two-hit games. Grissom was promoted to Mississippi on July 12, along with Justyn-Henry Malloy, Lisardo Santos, and Dylan Dodd.
Grissom, who is ranked as the Braves' top prospect according to Baseball America, has reached base safely in 43 straight games with Rome and Mississippi, dating back to May 27.
Atlanta drafted Grissom in the 11th round of the 2019 draft out of Hagerty High School (FL).
Shuster, 23, led the Southern League with 12 strikeouts last week in his win over Rocket City last Tuesday, July 12. He matcand a career-high with 7.0 innings, 12 strikeouts, and yielded only two hits while walking none. Atlanta's No. 7 prospect according to MLB Pipeline has a 2.87 ERA through 16 starts, which ranks third in the Southern League. The New Bedford, MA native ranks among the league leaders in opponent's batting average, (.201, 2nd), WHIP (0.98, 2nd), innings pitched (84.2, 2nd) and strikeouts (98, 2nd).
Atlanta selected Shuster in the first round of the 2020 draft out of Wake Forest.
The M-Braves starting rotation posted a 0.82 ERA (3 ER/33 IP) with 10 walks and 41 strikeouts in the six-game sweep, over Rocket City. As a club, the M-Braves have the best record in minor league baseball in July at 13-2, The club's 2.52 ERA and .305 batting average in July are both ranked second in minor league baseball.
The M-Braves just completed their first six-game sweep in club history, winning all six games against Rocket City, capping off a 10-2 homestand. The club has a league-best 14-4 record in the season's second half, leading Montgomery by three games entering the All-Star Break. Play resumes for Mississippi on Friday with a three-game series at Montgomery, and six-game series at Pensacola. The Braves return to Trustmark Park for a six-game set with Biloxi, August 2-7.
