
Varone Drafter in Fifth Round by San Jose

SAN JOSE - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has drafted center Philip Varone from the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League with the 147th overall pick.
Varone notched 52 points (19 goals, 33 assists) in 58 games last season for sixth-best on the team and added 19 points (ten goals, nine assists) in 14 OHL playoff games. In Central Scouting's Mid-Term rankings, Varone sat at 90th overall but fell to 172nd in their Final Rankings.
"We felt Philip had an outstanding postseason for London under Head Coach Dale Hunter," said Wilson. "He is a skilled two-way forward who can play in all situations and we are excited to have him in our organization."
