Columbus Lions News Release
COLUMBUS, GA (April 9, 2013) - On Tuesday, the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) has named DB LeRoy Vann as the Week 5 Defensive Player of the Week.
Despite losing by 27 to Alabama, the Columbus Lions defense did have some shining moments of which included the play-making ability of DB LeRoy Vann (5'9 185, Florida A&M). Vann attributed for two of the Lions three turnovers on Saturday in addition to accounting for 25% of the Lions total scoring by stepping in front of two Russell Hill passes and returning them both for touchdowns giving him the honor of the Week 5 PIFL Defensive Player of the Week.
Through the PIFL's first five weeks, only one other player has scored a touchdown on an interception return (Roundtree-Lehigh Valley) and Vann's Week 1 missed field goal return for a touchdown still stands as the only special teams score.
This Saturday the Lions (1-2) will look to end their two-game losing streak when they visit the Lake Charles Civic Center to face off against the Louisiana Swashbucklers (0-2). Coverage begins at 8:00 PM ET and you can follow all the action by logging on to www.columbuslions.net and clicking on the Listen Live icon.
