Vancouver Whitecaps FC Forward Kekuta Manneh Voted MLS Player of the Week

Published on October 14, 2013 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Monday, October 14, 2013) - Vancouver Whitecaps FC forward Kekuta Manneh was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 33 of the 2013 MLS season.

Kekuta Manneh was in terrific form for the Whitecaps as he recorded his first MLS career hat trick in Vancouver's 4-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field Wednesday night. The 18-year-old became the youngest player in MLS history to score a hat trick.

Manneh scored his first goal of the night in the 12th minute when he beat Sounders FC defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado in a foot race and smoothly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Michael Gspurning to make it 1-0.

In the 42nd minute, Young-Pyo Lee collected a loose ball in the Whitecaps' half and sent it down the sideline to Camilo Sanvezzo, who deftly passed it to Manneh in the center of the field. Manneh ran past the defense and fired a low shot under Gspurning.

He completed the hat trick in the 54th minute when he combined with Daigo Kobayashi at the top of the penalty area and nutmegged Gspurning.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC are back in action Saturday October 19 in a must-win game on the road against the Colorado Rapids (6:00 p.m. ET).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
