TODAY'S STORYLINES:

Valor top Soul, 53-46, on last-second touchdown

The Valor (2-2) defeated the Soul (2-2), 53-46, Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena. Valor quarterback Arvell Nelson, whose seven total touchdowns earned him Most Valuable Player honors, connected with wide receiver Josh Reese for a 46-yard score with just six seconds left to give Washington the victory. With the win, the Valor improve to 2-0 at home this season.

"This is what we play for," Nelson said postgame. "This is what we work for in the offseason. These moments in the fourth quarter where everything is on the line - that's what it's all about. That's what makes this game so fun."

Valor to participate in Playworks DC Flag Football Extravaganza

Four Valor players (Jared Dangerfield, Jadar Johnson, Deveric Gallington and Leon Mackey Jr.) will take part in Playworks DC's Flag Football Extravaganza on Wednesday, May 22 from 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Folger Park (2nd & D Street) in downtown D.C. Players will lead a Q&A session with the fourth and fifth grade students prior breaking into skills and drills stations.

McNeil III hosts after-school assembly and fitness clinic

Last week, Valor wide receiver Douglas McNeil III hosted an assembly and fitness clinic at Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter High School in Anacostia through his foundation, iDREAM. McNeill III spoke with students about fundamental skills and core values necessary to be successful as they grow up. Read more about the event HERE .

Valor take on Destroyers Saturday in Columbus

The Valor are back in action next Saturday, May 25, taking on the Columbus Destroyers at 3:30 p.m. at Nationwide Arena in the first of three consecutive road games. The game will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Washington + and ESPN3. The Valor return to Capital One Arena on Saturday, June 15, hosting the Albany Empire at 7 p.m.

POSITION SPOTLIGHT: QUARTERBACKS

Arvell Nelson - #2 - QB

Nelson, who led Washington to its first-ever ArenaBowl appearance and championship in 2018, is playing in his seventh season in the league. In the nine games Nelson started in 2018, he led the league in both passing yards per game (246.6) and rushing yards per game (24.8). Prior to joining the Valor, Nelson's career included stints with the AFL's Cleveland Gladiators, Spokane Shock and Pittsburgh Power, as well as stops with the PIFL's Alabama Hammers and AAL's Richmond Roughriders. The Texas Southern alumnus totaled 250+ yards and 7+ touchdowns in each of his three postseason games with the Valor in 2018, including his ArenaBowl XXXI MVP performance against Baltimore.

Jerod Evans - #10 - QB

Evans is playing in his first full AFL season after spending the 2018 season on the Valor's injured reserve. Following a college career at Virginia Tech in which he threw for 3,552 yards and scored 41 total touchdowns, Evans made appearances with the Philadelphia Eagles (minicamp) and the Green Bay Packers (practice quad) during the 2017 season.
