ValleyDawgs Snatch another Wildcat

May 17, 2004 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs News Release

For the second time in a week, the Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs have signed a player away from the Adirondack Wildcats. Point guard John Thomas (6'0" St. Francis, NY) signed with Pennsylvania on Monday. He joins Frantz-Pierre Louis who signed late last week.

Thomas has played the past two seasons with Adirondack and was one of the biggest problems the Dawgs used to face against the Wildcats. Last season, Thomas averaged 12.7 points per game while dishing out nearly four assists per contest.

Known to the basketball world as "Mookie", Thomas is a great complement in the backcourt. "Its like having another Tim Winn on the floor," says ValleyDawg Vice President and General Manager Sam Unera, referring to the speedy 5'10" guard already on Pennsylvania's roster. "With those two back there, teams are not going to know how to defend us."

The ‘Dawgs added Thomas to fill a roster spot left by Marcus Hill. Hill, who was the Home Depot Player of the game in a win Saturday night against Adirondack, injured his hand in a win Sunday over the Wildcats. He has been placed on injured reserve.

The ValleyDawgs have not made that many changes this season because of the way the team has been playing. At 10-3, they have the top record in the USBL and sit in first place in the Eastern Division. The record is even more impressive because PA has played just 4 games at home. In fact, Pennsylvania is the only USBL team with a winning record away from home (6-3).

The ValleyDawgs begin a 4-game homestand on Tuesday against the Brooklyn Kings. Tipoff is 7PM at Liberty High School. The ValleyDawgs are undefeated at their new home.
