ValleyDawgs Named USBL Team of the Week

June 21, 2004 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs News Release

The Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs are the hottest team in the league entering the 2004 USBL Post-Season Festival. Their 5-game win streak to close out the regular season earned them Team of the Week Honors by the USBL. The ValleyDawgs have entered the Post-Season on a winning streak twice, both years making it to the championship. In 2001, Pennsylvania won their only USBL Championship. Last year, the ValleyDawgs lost to Dodge City 97-96 in overtime after a controversial call late in the game.

The ValleyDawgs took on their Eastern Division rival Westchester to start the week. The ValleyDawgs battled back from 13 points down in the final minutes. With PA down 103-101 with 33 seconds left, Tim Winn got a steal and fed the ball to Quincy Wadley who laid in the bucket to tie it. Another turnover gave PA the ball back, but a jump ball ensued with 3 seconds left after Wadley slipped. Wadley then won the jump ball, tipping the toss to Marcus Fleming, and Fleming put the ball up and in with one second left to pull out a 103-101 victory. Frantz Pierre-Louis led the way with 24 points. Jayson Wells had 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Quincy Wadley had 20 points to go along with the important tip. The ValleyDawgs hosted Brevard on two consecutive nights. In the first game the ValleyDawgs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back winning 136-104. Eight players were in double figures, with Willie Chandler leading the way with 19 points. Jayson Wells had 17 points and Darrin Hancock had 15 points in his ValleyDawgs debut. The next night the ValleyDawgs continued their domination over Brevard with their largest victory of the season 109-68 victory. Frantz Pierre-Louis had 21 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Lou White and Carlos Wheeler each had 12 points in the win. The ValleyDawgs faced Florence in their last home game of the season. Joe Crispin exploded for 35 points as the ValleyDawgs won 118-110. Crispin had a USBL season-high 8 three-pointers in the game and scored 19 points in the 3rd quarter. Frantz Pierre-Louis had 25 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Tim Winn had 12 points and 11 assists for the ValleyDawgs.

The 4th-seeded ValleyDawgs open the playoffs on Friday, June 25th against 5th-seeded Cedar Rapids. The game will be broadcasted locally in the Lehigh Valley on AM 1400 WEST at 5:30 PM EST. If PA wins, they will battle either #1 Dodge City or #8 Westchester at 6PM EST on Saturday night in the semfinals. The Championship game is 5PM EST on Sunday.
