ValleyDawgs looking for first win ever in Salina
June 1, 2004 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs News Release
The Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs begin their 5-game, 12-day road trip in the Midwest on Tuesday evening. And it's the biggest game of the road trip for them.
It's not because the ValleyDawgs need a win to have the best record in the USBL and stay in first place in the Eastern Division. Nor is it because Pennsylvania is beginning its toughest 12-day stretch of the season and wants to start the trip off strong.
That's all true, but the âDawgs have other things motivating them for their showdown against the Kansas Cagerz. Pennsylvania, now playing in its 6th season in the USBL, has never won a game in Salina. They are 0-4 lifetime against the Cagerz in Kansas.
Plus, the Cagerz are the host of this year's Post-Season Festival. The host of the playoffs has won the last three USBL titles so PA realizes the importance of having a mental edge heading into the 8-team, 7-game, 3-day tournament at the end of June.
But there is more that fuels the ValleyDawgs. In 2000, the two teams had a bench's clearing brawl on the floor of the Bicentennial Center in Salina. Just one hour before tip-off in 2001, the Salina police department arrived at the door of ValleyDawg star Terrance Roberson and arrested him in connection with the brawl the year before. Pennsylvania refused to play the game until the matter was resolved and Roberson was allowed to play. They got their request but still lost the game.
Tip-off is 8PM Eastern time.
