Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs News Release

The Pennsylvania ValleyDawgs shook up their roster Tuesday by adding a player who can help them win a championship. Forward Jason Wells (6’7 Indiana State) led the Israel Professional League in scoring this past year and has looked good since arriving to the ValleyDawgs.

“He can definitely play,” says 2nd-year assistant coach Nat Amato. “I’m real impressed with what he’s done during practice and am anticipating him giving us a lot in his first game Wednesday night.”

Wells has been playing abroad since graduating from Indiana State in 1996. He has played full seasons in Sweden, Finland, Australia, Germany and Israel. He has averaged more than 20 points per game as a professional.

The ValleyDawgs will also suit up 275-pounder Kevin Lyde (6’10” Temple) for the first time. “He’s a house inside,” Amato said of Lyde. “And he can run the floor well for a big guy, which is important in our system.”

Lyde played the last two seasons in the NBDL. This past year, he finished 4th in the league in blocks (1.6 BPG) while playing for the Columbus Riverdragons. In the 2002-03 season, he played with the Greenville Groove. He averaged 9.6 points and tied for the team lead in blocked shots, ranked second in rebounding, and ranked fourth in scoring.

Lyde is one of only three players in Temple history to score 1,000 points and rebounds in a career. And he is second all-time on their blocks list.

The ValleyDawgs were decimated by injuries over the past several weeks. But guards Joe Crispin (6’1 Penn State) and Quincy Wadley (6’4 Temple) returned Saturday to lead the ValleyDawgs to a win over Kansas. And with the addition of Wells and Lyde, Pennsylvania has a very strong and healthy roster.

To make room on the roster, the ValleyDawgs have released Brian Taylor and Charles Ward.

ValleyDawgs are 11-5 and in 2nd place in the USBL’s Eastern Division. They host the Cedar Rapids River Raiders on Wednesday. Tipoff is 7PM at Liberty High School.
