
Valkyries Outlast Rise in Five Sets

Orlando Valkyries News Release
The Orlando Valkyries defeated the Grand Rapids Rise 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-9) on Saturday night at Van Andel Arena.
Outside hitter Adora Anae led the Valkyries with 19 total points (16 kills and three blocks) in the contest. Full statistics for the match can be found here.
Set 1
The Valkyries decisively took the first set 25-18. Orlando scored the sets first four points and jumped out to an early 8-3 lead. With the Valkyries leading 9-4, the Rise would score three in a row to get to within two. But the Valkyries regained their footing and led by as much as seven to close out the set. Valkyries middle blocker Kaz Brown had four kills in the set.
Set 2
Grand Rapids pulled away and took the second set 25-21. With the Valkyries leading 4-3, Grand Rapids scored four straight points to take the lead. Valkyries tied the set at 8-8 and then the two teams traded points. With the Rise leading 14-13, they went on a 3-0 run to lead 17-13. Grand Rapids shielded off the Valkyries to close out the set. The Rise was led by outside hitter Claire Chausee, who had 10 kills in the set.
Set 3
Orlando caught fire toward the end of the third set and won 25-21. Valkyries led 5-3 and Grand Rapids scored four straight points to take the lead at 7-5. Orlando would tie the set at 11-11, but the Rise would go on a 3-0 run to lead 14-11. With Grand Rapids leading 21-18, the Valkyries scored seven straight points to end the set. Brown tied Chaussee with seven kills in the set. Chausee finished the match with 25 points (23 kills, one block and an ace).
Set 4
Grand Rapids built a big lead and took the fourth set 25-19. The Valkyries scored the set's first two points, and the Rise took the lead at 4-3. With Grand Rapids leading 11-9, they went on a 3-0 run. With the scored at 14-10, Grand Rapids scored four straight points to lead by as much as eight. Orlando had two separate 3-0 runs, but the Rise's lead proved to be too much to overcome. Grand Rapids opposite hitter Emiliya Dimitrova and Anae both had five kills in the set.
Set 5
Orlando closed out the match strong and took the fifth set 15-9. With the Valkyries leading 6-5, the team went on a 3-0 run to lead 9-5. Orlando did not slow down and ended the match on a block by Brown, who finished the match with 18 points (13 kills, four blocks and an ace).
