Valkyries Engage in Hard-Fought Battle, Falls to Vibe in Five Thrilling Sets

In their first away match, the Orlando Valkyries (1-2) were defeated by the Atlanta Vibe (4-1), at Atlanta's Gas South Arena on Monday night. It was an intense battle, with Orlando taking the match's second and fourth set, and Atlanta winning sets one, two, and five.

Valkyries Adora Anae led both teams in total points and kills with a tally of 30 points, 26 of which came from kills. Full statistics for the game can be found here.

Set 1

In the opening set, the Valkyries and the Vibe were in a close contest marked with frequent lead changes. Atlanta would claim the opening point of the match and from then on, the two teams would continue to trade points early in the set. The Valkyries gained their first lead at 10-9 following a pivotal block by M'Kaela White. The Vibe would reclaim the lead at a scoreline of 13-12. The teams remained neck and neck, until Atlanta would go on a 6-point run, ending the set 25-21.

Set 2

Starting the second set, Atlanta's Leah Edmond made a service error, allowing the Valkyries to secure the first point of the set. Following this, both teams traded points until the Valkyries went on a 4-point run, extending their lead to 14-9, the largest of the set. The Valkyries maintained their advantage throughout, ultimately ending the set with at 25-19, tying the match.

Set 3

In the third set, The Vibe surged ahead early on, but the Valkyries fought back, tying the score at 11-11 with a kill by Kaz Brown. Atlanta then capitalized on a 3-point run, establishing a lead they maintained until the end of the set, closing it out at 25-21.

Set 4

In the beginning of the fourth set, both the Valkyries and Vibe frequently tied the score or exchanged narrow leads. However, an attack error by Atlanta allowed Orlando to edge ahead, securing a two-point lead at 17-15. With a kill by Anae, the Valkyries extended their lead to 20-16, marking the first 4-point advantage of the set. Despite Atlanta's attempts to mount a comeback, a kill by Jill Gillen evened the match.

Set 5

The fifth set would continue the trend of the two teams tying the match back and forth, mirroring the preceding sets. The Valkyries would lose their lead at 15-14 with the Vibe scoring the last three points, winning the match 3-2.
