
V-Rod voted Player of the Month

NEWARK, NJ - September 5, 2006 - The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced today Newark Bears infielder Victor Rodriguez has been voted player of the month for the month of August.
Rodriguez played in 28 games during the month of August after signing with the team on August 1, hitting .394 with 14 doubles, three home runs, 14 runs scored, and 21 RBI. On August 15, the former Atlantic League MVP tied the Atlantic League hitting streak hitting safely in 27 straight games, after hitting safely in his final 11 games of the 2004 season and his first 16 games this season.
"The Newark Bears would like to congratulate Victor Rodriguez on being voted player of the month by the Atlantic League," said Bears General Manager John Brandt. "It is a great honor to him after the terrific month of August he had."
In addition to Rodriguez, Atlantic City Surf pitcher Lincoln Mikkelsen was voted Pitcher of the Month after pitching four complete games in five starts with a 5-0 record and a 1.07 ERA for the month.
The Newark Bears begin a six-game home stand with a three-game series against the Long Island Ducks on Tuesday, September 5 with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 pm.
