Utah Sends Stengel to Houston in Exchange for Draft Picks
Published on January 8, 2020 under National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) News Release
Chicago - The Houston Dash have acquired forward Katie Stengel and the 22nd overall draft pick from Utah Royals FC in a trade announced on Wednesday afternoon. In return, Utah Royals FC will receive Houston's natural second-round picks in the 2020 and 2021 NWSL College Drafts.
Stengel has scored 12 goals in 83 career NWSL games with Washington, Boston and Utah. In 2018, the forward finished the season as Utah's top scorer with six goals in the club's inaugural campaign.
Following an outstanding college career at Wake Forest University in 2014, Stengel kicked off her professional career with Bayern Munich in Germany. The Colorado native helped lead Bayern to their 2014-15 Frauen Bundesliga Championship title, finishing the season as the club's leading goal scorer. Stengel has also spent time in Australia's W-League enjoying stints with the Western Sydney Wanderers, Newcastle Jets and is currently playing for Canberra United on loan from the NWSL. In 2011, she scored seven goals in 25 appearances with the USA Under-20 and Under-23 squads.
With this trade, Houston will now pick 18th and 22nd overall and Utah will select 12th and 31st overall at the 2020 College Draft.
The 2020 NWSL Draft will take place on Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. (ET) at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Baltimore, MD.
