Howell, NJ - Sky Blue FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) have acquired Margaret "Midge" Purce and the natural 2021 first round draft pick from Portland Thorns FC in exchange for midfielder Raquel "Rocky" Rodriguez.

Purce, 24, joins Sky Blue FC after a breakout 2019 campaign with the Thorns. She played in 22 games (19 starts) and finished the regular season as a top ten goal scorer, registering eight goals and one assist. Purce earned NWSL Player of the Week for Week 19 and was named to June's NWSL Team of the Month.

"I am thrilled to welcome Midge to the team," said Sky Blue Head Coach Freya Coombe. "She is incredibly skilled and will play an integral part in our success this season. We look forward to welcoming her talents to Sky Blue."

Purce, drafted out of Harvard by the Boston Breakers, was the ninth overall pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. She played 22 matches (13 starts) during her rookie season, recording one goal and two assists. Purce was selected by the Thorns in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft and played in 19 games (15 starts) during her second season in the league.

Purce started and earned her first international cap with the U.S. Women's National Team on November 11 against Costa Rica. Purce is currently in the USWNT January Training Camp in Tampa, Florida.

Rodriguez, a member of the Costa Rican National Team, made 76 appearances and 66 starts in four seasons for Sky Blue. She was drafted second overall by Sky Blue in the 2016 NWSL Draft and was named 2016 NWSL Rookie of the Year.

"I'm extremely grateful to Rocky for giving her heart and soul to this club for four years," said Sky Blue General Manager Alyse LaHue. "It was an absolute privilege to be able to work with her, and we wish her nothing but success in the next phase of her career."
