Utah Blaze Ink Former Freshman All-American

SALT LAKE CITY - LB/RB Remond Willis, a 2005 Sporting News Freshman all-American and 2005 All-Big Ten Freshman Team selection while playing linebacker at the University of Illinois, has signed to play for the Utah Blaze, head coach Ernesto Purnsley announced Monday.

While as a freshman with the Fighting Illini, Willis (6-foot-1, 250 pounds) was fifth on the team in tackles with 54. He also had 6.5 tackles for loss as well as a sack, interception, pass break-up, quarterback hurry and forced fumble.

After transferring to Tennessee State, Willis led the team in tackles with 84, nine tackles for loss, two QB hurries and an interception in 2007, and in 2008 he tallied 55 tackles, three for loss, and two pass break-ups and two fumble recoveries.

He signed with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in 2009, but was released just before the start of the regular season.
