USL Statement Regarding Gregor Suspension Appeal
Published on August 13, 2008 under USL First Division (USL-1) News Release
TAMPA, FL -- United Soccer Leagues issued the following statement this evening in response to an earlier issued Montreal Impact press statement regarding Wednesday's league match versus the Rochester Rhinos with respect to the participation of Rhinos' player Andrew Gregor, whose suspension is currently under appeal.
The original league disciplinary decision, which has been formally appealed by the Rhinos, is in response to the ruling made regarding the serving of a one-game suspension for the accumulation of five cautions, not the actual one-game suspension itself.
USL Executive Vice President & COO Tim Holt:
"In accordance with its League Regulations, USL provides all its member teams the right to due process via the opportunity to appeal disciplinary decisions, and stands firmly behind its decision that Andrew Gregor be eligible to compete for the Rhinos' pending resolution of entirety of the current disciplinary process. While USL works diligently to ensure all appeals are heard in a timely fashion, it is not uncommon for suspensions to be postponed during the appeal process."
