USL Fox Sports World Game of the Week

July 7, 2004 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release

Impact @ Raging Rhinos

This Friday's live USL on Fox Sports World A-League match takes place at Frontier Field in Rochester, New York as the Montreal Impact take on the Rochester Raging Rhinos. Kickoff is set for 8:00 pm ET.

Montreal Impact

After an 8-0-4 start, the Montreal Impact suffered their first two losses of the season last weekend with a pair of 2-1 overtime decisions to the Virginia Beach Mariners and Richmond Kickers. They will look to return to their winning ways Friday night when they travel to first place Rochester.

Forward Fred Commodore leads the team with six goals and one assist for 13 points while the defense is anchored by goalkeeper Greg Sutton, who owns a 0.464 goals against average, good for second in the league.

Rochester Raging Rhinos

The Rhinos are coming off an almost two-week hiatus looking to defend their Eastern Conference lead, which they share with the Atlanta Silverbacks at 31 points.

Forward Chris Carrieri leads the team in points with 17. His seven assists is tops in the A-League, while teammate Corey Woolfolk has notched seven goals, tied for fifth in the league. Goalkeeper Theo Zagar is giving up just over half a goal per game (0.534), ranking third behind Sutton, and has recorded six shutouts on the season.

History

This is the first time this season that the two teams have met. They are just three points apart in the standings and will meet again in the last game of the season, on August 27th. The two teams finished 1-2 in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference in 2003, with the Impact finishing three points clear of the Rhinos. Montreal won the season series last year at 2- 1-1, but fell short in the first round of the playoffs, falling 2-1 on aggregate score to the Rhinos.
