November 10, 2003 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release


Hot Wings - Danville claimed five of a possible six points on the weekend to extend its division lead to six points over Chicago. The Wings have scored a league-high 60 goals through 16 games, an average of 3.75 goals per game. Cedar Rapids' average of 3.92 goals per game leads the USHL.

Sizzling Siciliano - Sioux City is 8-2-0 over its last ten games and a perfect 5-0 at home. Goaltender Jeff Lantz leads the USHL with a .937 saves percentage.

Riders Roll - Cedar Rapids, powered by leading scorer Jon Grabarek, have won three games in a row.

Steel Star - Chicago's Topher Scott has scored in four straight games. He has five goals over that span.

Plus Player - Tri-City defenseman Brian Kilburg has the USHL's best plusminus rating of plus-14.

Tuesday Night Hockey - Six teams will be in action on Tuesday night including St. Louis, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Green Bay, Des Moines and River City. For the East Division teams it will be a chance to close the gap on Danville which does not play this week.

Sweet Home - Chicago has outscored its opponents 20-9 at home thus far.

Storm strong - Tri-City is a perfect 3-0 against Lincoln this season after posting a 2-4-0 mark against the Stars last year.

USHL Quotable with...

River City head coach Mike Hastings on goaltender Marty Magers (as told to Joshua Buechler, Omaha World-Herald): "He's done a great job of standing in the middle and saying, ‘Hey, follow me.'"

LPH/USHL Offensive Player of the Week:

Topher Scott -- CHICAGO STEEL Scott (Buffalo Grove, Ill.), Chicago's captain, earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after notching five points (4G, 1A) in three games and extending his goalscoring streak to four games. Honorable mention goes to Sean Muncy (Cedar Rapids), Todd McIlrath (Danville), Jimmy Kilpatrick (Green Bay) and Joel Hanson (Waterloo).

LPH/USHL Defensive Player of the Week:

Jeremy Smith -- RIVER CITY LANCERS

Smith (Anchorage, Alaska), the Lancers' top-scoring defenseman, earned Defensive Player of the Week honors by registering a goal and two assists in a key one-goal River City victory over Sioux Falls. His offensive output complemented a weekly plus-minus rating of plus-3. Honorable mention goes to Jeff Lantz (Sioux City).
